Breakfast is a busy time in our house, as I’m sure it is in yours. Our school starts early and is a 25-minute drive away, so my boys usually eat their breakfast in the car. On Saturdays, we are also usually running off to sports practice. And…we have allergies to gluten, dairy, and egg -- basically all the typical breakfast foods – in addition to many others… which can make breakfast complicated!
However, over the years, I’ve come up with a handful of healthy and Top 8 Allergen Free breakfast favorites that I wanted to share with you here.
Breakfast Fave #1 – Oatmeal
Grayson LOVES oatmeal, which makes me so happy. He eats a warm bowl almost every morning on the way to school. I make it on the stove while I’m packing his lunch, and the whole process takes under five minutes. I am super grateful for Oatly oat milk and Gerbs gluten-free oats that are safe and delicious. We use one-part oats to two-parts Oatly – he usually eats 1 cup of oats and 2 cups of Oatly – and a pinch of salt. You can easily add a tablespoon of Sunbutter, honey, cinnamon, berries… anything that’s safe and tasty!
Breakfast Fave #2 – Sunbutter Sandwiches
The boys and I eat these a LOT – they are so quick to make and are good carb, protein, and healthy fat combo. I love the Lundberg Thin Stackers Rice Cakes, especially the Brown Rice and Red Rice and Quinoa versions. I slather Sunbutter in between two cakes (and sometimes also jam or honey), and we are good to go. They are great for me, too, since they go well with coffee and are easy to eat while I drive!
Side note: If Grayson didn’t eat these for breakfast, I’ll sometimes send them for a Bento Box lunch, along with sliced turkey roll-ups, a fresh veggie, and a MadeGood bar. Yum!
Breakfast Fave #3 – Enjoy Life Classic Muffins
I am so grateful for this muffin mix. I make it all the time. It’s a very easy mix and you can add anything you want to change it up – chocolate chips, berries, a grated apple, some canned pumpkin. My boys eat these often for breakfast (or lunch!). Here is a picture of Owen’s breakfast recently with Enjoy Life mini muffins (with chocolate chips!) and some cut apple. He gobbled it all up!
Breakfast Fave #4 – Arrowhead Mills Organic Gluten-Free Maple Buckwheat Flakes
This is the only cereal that Grayson will eat. It would be delicious with Oatly oat milk, but he just loves to eat it plain. I have a hard time finding this at the grocery store anymore, but it’s available on Amazon. This is not really our everyday option because I really want him to have more protein and calories before school, but it’s a great extra breakfast or snack option on the weekends.
Breakfast Fave #5 – Bacon and Waffles
My boys love, love, love bacon. It’s a part of our lazy Sunday breakfast tradition, along with waffles! I love Applegate Farms Organic Uncured Sunday Bacon. And here’s my trick! I bake my bacon in a 375-degree oven for 15 minutes, and it’s perfect. No mess on my stovetop, no pan to watch or wash. And I can focus on making waffles while the bacon cooks!
We love the Enjoy Life Fluffy Pancake and Waffle Mix! It definitely feels like a gift to be able to make something so “normal” for our kids. Also, the cooked waffles hold up well in the fridge for a day or so, if you re-toast them to heat them up. (Microwaving won’t work.) So, if we have extras, my boys will sometimes eat them like toast for breakfast on the way to school Monday morning. Win / Win!
PLEASE NOTE: I am grateful to have these safe options and just want to share with you; nothing here is a paid endorsement. ALWAYS read labels and do your own research to decide if any product is safe for your family. As you know, everyone is different, and ingredients and manufacturing processes can always change. XO
